Eyelash extensions have definitely grown so popular in the recent days. I mean, who wouldn’t want to wake up with luscious, long and thick lashes? Well, not me. I want to draw all the attention to my beautiful eyes. But don’t forget, just like any other good investment, lash extensions still require proper maintenance. This will not only help you in terms of saving money to maintain and replace them often, but also help keep you safe from eye infections and keep your lashes looking clean and neat.

Lash extensions usually follow the growth cycle of your natural lashes as well as fall off with them. This means that they can last for about six to eight weeks but after around three to four weeks, there will be about 40-50% of the lashes remaining. With these extensions, most of the aftercare is between 24-48 hours after getting them installed. Failure to do so might lead to premature lash extension loss.

In our previous article we learnt about everything you need to know about lash extensions (which if you haven’t yet, please read). Therefore, in this article we get to take you through a few tips that will help you care for your lash extensions so you can enjoy them for a little longer as well as save some coins. So read on;

  1. Avoid water for the first 48 hours

Try your best to avoid water and any other form of moisture around your eyes within the first hours of getting your lashes installed. You need to give the glue enough time to completely dry and set in so your lashes can last long. During this period you also want to avoid oil-based makeup and makeup removers when you have to remove your makeup.

  1. Avoid picking or pulling your lashes

I know it is so difficult to resist the urge to frequently pick or even play around with your lashes. But you should definitely avoid this because doing so will pull out your extensions and you also risk damaging your natural lashes. Avoiding this will also help save you some money as you won’t need frequent filling or replacing of the extensions.

  1. Stay away from waterproof eye products

As I’ve just mentioned above, oil-based products are a big no-no when it to maintenance of lash extensions. Using waterproof products will make it difficult for you to remove with normal cleansers. This will mean you have to clean your eyes using oil-based makeup removers in which you risk damaging your extensions. But to be honest, you don’t even need that much eye makeup if you already have lash extensions. So if you can, just stay away from heavy eye makeup or just any makeup at all.

  1. Frequently brush your lashes

The best and easiest way to maintain your lash extensions is to brush them often. Though make sure you only brush them when needed to keep them neat and fluttery. As you’re doing this also remember to keep your spoolies clean and replace them as frequent as you can. This will help you avoid eye infections and any other health complications around your eyes.

  1. Switch your pillowcase from cotton to satin or silk

If you’ve been reading our previous articles then you definitely have yourself a silk or satin pillowcase by now. This is because they just seem to come in handy especially when taking care of your hair, skin and now lashes extensions. Cotton pillowcases can damage your lashes by causing drying and snagging which will lead to premature loss of your lash extensions. Therefore, if you want your precious lashes to last a bit longer, changes those pillowcases now!
