- Skin Care
We all have our own skin challenges, dry skin being one of them. And just like oily skin, dry skin is also quite common and needs to be taken care of just as often. Dry skin usually comes about when your face doesn’t protect itself enough from the harshness of the external environment. This leads to dryness and development of tiny cracks in the outer layer of the skin thus reduces its ability to maintain hydration properly. Therefore, choosing the right products to incorporate into your daily regimen is very important just as much as it can be quite a hustle.
I’m quite sure that by now you are tired of your skin itching, flaking, tightening and all that. So let me give you ways to reduce this.
- Cleanse
Cleansing is the first step. A gentle, non-foaming and hydrating cleanser is best since it will be able to remove dirt and oil without causing any disruptions to the outer layer of your skin. It should also contain moisturizing ingredients like vitamin E, glycerin and hyaluronic acid. Also look for a cleanser that will leave your skin feeling clean and hydrated rather than tight and uncomfortable.
- Tone
Toning helps provide an added boost of hydration and rebalance to you skin. Most toners have alcohol as their main ingredient which tends to dry out your skin. Therefore, go for alcohol-free toners with active ingredients that will restore the pH level of your skin. Also look for ones with hydrating and soothing agents like bamboo, cucumber and chamomile.
- Hydrate
The remedy to a dry skin is moisture. This is why for dry skin it is very important to up your moisturizer game and make sure your skin stays hydrated. You can do this by first applying a vitamin C serum then adding hyaluronic acid on top for extra moisture. Hydrating serums are an excellent way to replenish your skin while hyaluronic acid helps pull water to the skin which reduces the appearance of fine lines and wrinkles.
- Moisturize
When it comes to dry skin, pick a moisturizer that will help soften rough cells, increase hydration and form a protective layer on the surface of the skin. Usually people prefer using a moisturizing SPF to take them for the day but for dry skin it’s not supposed to be the case. It is advisable to use a light hydrating moisturizer prior to a sunscreen of SPF 30 and above.
- Sunscreen
Heat is the main cause of dryness. Exposure to UV light and pollution causes free radial damage that leads to premature aging. Therefore, look for a sunscreen that will help lock in the moisture as well as have an SPF of at least 30 and above to help ensure that your skin is getting proper coverage. Also reapply it after every two hours if you’re outside for extra protection.
- Give it time
They say Rome wasn’t built in a day, well so is the perfect skin. The science behind skincare products has come a long way but there is still no such thing as instant fix. You’ll definitely need time to reap the benefits and results will only come through consistent use. I mean, give your skin a little break. You should aim to use a product for over about six weeks once or twice a day to notice differences.
A tip is to apply skincare products in order of consistency (from the thinnest to thickest) for example cleanser, serum then moisturizer.
