- Nail Care
Just like skincare, nail care is very important. This is because we all desire healthy, strong nails and the only way to achieve this is to have a regular nail care routine. Healthy nails are definitely one of those less-visible confidence boosters just like putting on some amazing pair of socks then end up covering them up with your boots. But getting your nails healthy also means getting rid of some bad habits such as using your nails as tools, among others that we will discuss here in this article.
With everything going on in the world right now, our hands really don’t get a break from all the washing and sanitizing, huh. This will leave your nails looking a little flippy, flakey and less fabulous. That is why we compiled this article to show you how healthy nails are not only easy to achieve but also easier to flaunt. So read on;
- Keep your nails clean
A good nail care routine should begin with clean nails therefore ensure you clean your hands thoroughly before anything else. It is also important to remove any leftover nail polish from your nails with a nail polish remover.
- Keep your nails in shape
When it comes to shaping your nails, there are a variety of ways to do so including using your nail file, clippers or even both. Always make sure that you invest in your nail tools and that they are in shape since blunt tools might damage your nails by causing tears in your nails. To shape, use clippers to clip your nails slowly while following their natural curve. Then use a file (either emery boards or glass files) to file your nails in the same direction using long, smooth motions to make sure your nails look neat and even.
- Buff your nails
Buffing your nails helps them look super smooth and glossy. Therefore after shaping your nails, use a buffing stick to gently rub your nails for about 30 minutes. This will give your nails a smooth surface and a little extra shine to help elevate the look of bare nails. Also, doing this before a mani is said to help your nail polish last longer. Though be careful with this since you don’t want to over file your nails. Do it at least once a month.
- Moisturize your cuticles
As you are rubbing lotion or oil into your hands, make sure you rub it into your cuticles and nails too. Failure to do so will cause your skin and nail bed to dry out. Therefore, try to moisturize your hands after every hand wash. Using a quality cuticle oil will easily replace the natural oils and moisture you lose on the daily. It is advisable to apply it daily before bed for it to be more effective.
- Treatment and Polish (maybe)
Last but not least, you need to decide whether you will add some nail polish or go bare. If you decide to add some polish then ensure you start with a base coat. This will act as a double-sided sticky tape for your nails and adhere to your natural nails better than a polish would as well as ensure your polish lasts longer.
After applying your polish also remember to finish with a good top coat to seal in your colour as well as prevent chipping and breakage.
