As a makeup artist and enthusiast I can surely attest to the fact that achieving the perfect brow shape is one of the hardest steps when doing makeup. I still struggle with doing brows both on myself and on my clients. And we already know the huge difference your brows make on the overall look of your face. This is why we still remain persistent in learning and spending so much money on makeup artists to help us achieve the perfect eyebrows.

Nowadays, we are spoilt for choice in regards to the things we can do to achieve our perfect brows. There is threading, microblading, laminating and among other processes that have been invented to make life easier for those that seek perfection. And one of these processes is eyebrow tinting. This has become so popular nowadays that it can leave you with fomo if you haven't tried it yet.

What exactly is brow tinting?

Brow tinting is a noninvasive way to enhance and define your existing brow hairs using semi-permanent dye to darken the finer and lighter brow hairs that can’t be seen normally. This helps create a thicker and more impactful brow which is still natural-looking.

Eyebrow tinting is usually confused with microblading yet they are very different processes. Microblading includes applying small semi-permanent tattoos to the brow area to create an illusion of hairs. Unlike brow tinting, it lasts up to a year and comes with more risks.

Can you tint your brows at home?

As much as you can do brow tinting at home, it is advisable to see an expert. This is because you might experience difficulty in certain areas such as shaping the brow, which as I mentioned earlier is one if the most difficult steps even when doing your makeup. It is also important to know the the shade that suites you best depending on your skin tone and your natural brow colour. This is to help avoid brows that look too dark, orange, brown or gray. Therefore, purpose to get a professional to handle this process for you, so you can achieve the best results.

What are the pros and cons of eyebrow tinting?

Pros:

  1.  The process is pain-free
  2. Fuller eyebrows with more definition as well as symmetry
  3. It is smudge-proof therefore no need to fill-in when doing makeup
  4. Enjoy results for up to six weeks

Cons:

  1.  You might experience an allergic reaction
  2. Burning and irritation is also a possibility
  3. High risk of skin or eye infection

Remember it is very important to beware of the products use. Check the labels to see the list of ingredients and also to confirm whether they have been approved by relevant authorities.

Also do a patch test on an area besides your face to ensure it won’t cause further irritation.

Aftercare tips

Caring for your brows after tinting is just as important as picking the right shade to use. As mentioned earlier, eyebrow tint lasts up to 6 weeks if taken care of properly. A tip to help them last as long as possible is to avoid over-cleansing as well as using makeup removing products on your brows. If you're someone who works out a lot, you may also need to go for touchup after a few weeks. Another tip is to avoid applying heavy oils and creams on your brows and also to opt for gel cleansers as compared to oil cleansers especially within the first 24 hours.
